Ask HN: What’s your favorite social network (and why)?

I'd like to concentrate on one social network where I can share my thoughts and blog posts. But I can't really decide which one to choose. There are obvious ones like Xwitter, Instagram, and Mastodon, special ones like Pinterest, Substack, and LinkedIn, but I even consider sites like Reddit, Tumblr, and HN as social media... So my question would be: What’s your favorite social network (and why)? And if you had to choose one: Which would you choose?

It died a long time ago, it was called lunarstorm, it was during the golden age of these sites, people had "profiles" and "pages" and wrote html on them. There was some structure to the quirkyness.

These days, I don't know.. I guess I use facebook the most, but it's not that I enjoy it in particular.

Is HN a social network? I guess it lacks the networking part.. Otherwise, for interactions with strangers online, I think HN and random IRC channels are my favorites.

To be honest, Facebook is really low on my list of potential candidates, mostly because 90% of my peers left it for other networks.

Why? I think it depends on how you use them and which ones you choose for a productive reason.

There's a local group that meets weekly for lunch and sometimes Sunday brunch.

So of the ones you list, "none of the above".

That’s obviously not quite the social network I had in mind, but on the other hand those are hands-down the best social networks to be a part of ;)

Sure. Also it’s quite interesting that you like the social network with the least social mechanics the most.
