Coincidentally, I had an AirTag in a silicone case on a pair of AirPod Pros that was stolen. Apparently, I must've dropped them in my mixed-development's garage. I knew where they were but they went into a controlled access space inside of an unoccupied (except for security) Google building. I proceeded to inquire at the building's entrance to no avail. Then, I opened a case with Austin PD. As it so happened, I could see them move from the commercial building onto the highway and then to a residence just outside of town. Because of jurisdiction precedence, the PD in the other town couldn't/wouldn't do anything about it. The thing with APD is they are critically understaffed by about 200 officers and rarely/never respond to anything nonviolent except after 48 hours, so theft and burglary is a free-for-all. No officer was ever assigned and the criminals disabled the AirTag. So much for AirTags.
