In the Netherlands some politicians had a saying "Windmills run on subsidies."
It seems all energy sources run, to some extent, on subsidies?
That makes sense: next to roads, security, food, shelter and healthcare, the need for energy is one of the basic needs of a modern society.
Just look at the "Arab spring" some years ago: that was all about food and energy prices rising too fast and governments not acting enough to help their people.
