These planes look very much like typical low-cost homemade RC planes. People use cheap foam sheets instead of cardboard usually, but the techniques are very similar - packing tape for hinges on steering surfaces, mounting the wings with posickle sticks & rubber, wings made by bending rectangular sheets over the spars and glueing them, etc :)
