[ 5.7 ms ] story [ 33.7 ms ] thread
For reference, Obsidian CEO's HN comment, seven days ago: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37253639

Most notably, quoting his very words: "you should consider renaming the repo otherwise it can be confused for an official tool — that would be my only request".

Looks like the corpo drones are at work again - first Reddit, Terraform, and now this - breaking a publicly-made promise, just a few days in. I gotta say, it truly reflects poorly on a business when leadership has no integrity. Who knows when they'll rug pull their community next (who, by the way, contributed 1149 plugins to Obsidian)?

](CEO's HN comment)

The comment should be edited as not having a space between the thread ID 37253639 and ]( makes that part of the URL which results in an error.

That’s the second of two items he lists. The first is: “1. it could easily break in a future update to the app”
The patch addresses a security vulnerability.

Obsidian is not stopping people from creating syncing alternatives (there are many that exist already), or reverse engineering the app. See comments in the issue on the repo:

I see nothing wrong with this fix. Without it any plugin could intercept network traffic. The response to this seems exaggerated
