Kids will come up with other terms to make fun of people. Personally I find this horrible. I don't think real bullying (even psychologically) should be tolerated, I also think kids should be allowed to be kids, which is going to mean some amount of making fun of people. I can't imagine what it would be like to grow up being electronically monitored for rightthink during conversations with my friends.
People screaming racial slurs in online lobbies isn't 'kids being kids' and it still happens way too frequently. When I was a teenager I would have been glad if there was technology to filter the most toxic people out of online gaming. Many girls I grew up around who were into games deliberately never used voice chat because of the stuff that immediately would be spammed.

Even though you sit at home, online gaming usually involves strangers, and that means you're in a public space. You can't actually go to a chess club and start throwing slurs around or behave like a lunatic, so you shouldn't in the online world.

It's not rightthink that they are monitoring for. It's racial and homophobic slurs, harassment/bullying and screaming.

There are just a certain significant percentage of kids whose behavior is just garbage, especially if it's not directly supervised. When I was a kid, I never said or did those things. Because I was a polite and intelligent person as a boy. Maybe I was raised better or something.

I don't know the explanation, but not all children or adults are of the same quality level. Some are just low quality people overall.

It's screwed up that someone can be concerned about kids language among their friends while at the same time believing in "low quality people".
The consequence of handing control of our spaces of socialization and play to corporations. If only there existed technology to host our own servers..
It's very interesting that Call of Duty is willing to put in all the development time and effort to pay for and implement this feature when in all reality, the feature has already existed and it's power is in the hands of the players.

Block people. Mute them. Join a different lobby. Turn off voice chat. It's honestly really easy.

I wish servers were dedicated again, so the racists and misogynists can go off into their own communities and not affect regular every-day people who just want to play a game. But of course Activision has to host the servers themselves for... some... reason?

That's genious, my nigga!
