With the number of applications and acceptances isn’t it inevitable that a few get by? This is the first I recall, but surely there have been others? I don’t envy the folks doing the filtering with so much at stake and such an emphasis on the effusive pitch.
I agree, at least statistically. The last paragraph of the article has this line:

I would love to see actual numbers, if they are published anywhere.
