Useful on an icebreaker: a rough and ready optics mast for human use

Icebreakers see all sorts of critters, mainly polar bears, and seals, birds, but mainly at a distance. A 1000 millimeter lens would be great. But how to hold it? That's a stout tripod you're lugging around for international travel. A monopod is probably not stable enough. But a stout pole, thick aluminum sheet, or U beam that could be clamped onto the liferail at variable height would be a great starting point. Then you just need either an Arca mount or you can even use a window mount (e.g. https://vortexoptics.com/vortex-car-window-mount.html).

The best solution gimbal mount attached to the lense.

The are designed mount on anything that accepts a tripod head.
