Remote jobs are a losing battle. Companies may promise remote work today, but take it away when they see fit.
I've been working remotely for 10 years. Well before it was acceptable (when I started, almost no companies offered remote work).
If you really want to work remotely, you need to be contractor/consultant. It's also better than being a salaried employee because companies generally won't force you to work nights and weekends to finish a project, unless they want to a pay $$$.
