The reason is there is a line of political thinking that divides people into oppressors and oppressed based on skin color, and assigns different standards based on it. It has become status quo and as a result the average left leaning person's dogma.
From a charitable standpoint, we can clearly see undesirable inequalities in groups of people that on the surface level can be grouped by race. In other words, there is a lingering problem in society that Classical Liberalism has not been able to solve AND has no explanation for. It seems that a large number of people think that revisiting discrimination based on skin color is necessary to attempt and reverse the deep-seeded inequalities embedded in history.
