Show HN: Become more conscious of what you buy (thinktwice.app)
A few years ago, I went on an exchange semester to the Netherlands with a small suitcase, so I had the bare minimum of material possessions.
During the semester, I realized how happy I was even though I didn't have all the objects I had left at home. Since then, I've discovered that acquiring material possessions was one of the ways I used to cope with certain emotions, and apparently I'm not the only one.
I created ThinkTwice to guide people in a mindful reflection on their intended purchases, ultimately dissuading them from wasting money on material possessions that won't make them happy.
It's totally free, you can try it without an account, and if you decide to register, you don't even need an email address.
It's just a MVP, but I would like to know your opinions about the idea :)
Thanks, Stefano

[ 2.7 ms ] story [ 75.3 ms ] threadI’ve had some luck using budgeting apps - simply putting myself on an allowance of “impulse purchases”. I would love/hate an app that brought back purchases from the past and said “hey, are you still really loving that XYZ you bought in November 2023?” I’m guessing that would reveal some wasted funds… especially if it baked in missed market gains or interest.
