That was a ridiculously long read given the key points of the whole thing.

I’m currently biased due to the fact that an essay I 100% wrote myself came back from turnitin as being AI generated (in generic places, like the introduction) - so I think AI detection software is a bullshit gimmick. And I say that with full awareness of my biased attitude.

However, I think the arms race going on might lead to some really interesting innovations in this space that might not solve the AI detection unreliability issues (for human vs AI text), but might create some interesting solutions to other random issues. Also the way it’s unfolding is kind of interesting.

Do AI detectors work?

In short, no.
