It stands to reason that a country would not reveal or even go as far as to deny the existence of weaponry that would be cutting edge or even alter the existential beliefs of the human race.
Nuclear weapons altered the existential beliefs of the human race and that didn't stop the US from amassing enough to crack the planet open several times over and pointing them at the heads of everyone in Europe and Asia for half a century. If the US had these, they wouldn't deny it for an instant.
Because it had a purpose at the time and place, and it's development was a response.
Since then (largely due to the efforts of the military industrial) weapons are developed and put on a shelf to be used "when the time is right". There are many others that are being used that you have no indication of their existence.
