Ask HN: Why is X's website still on domain twitter.com?

2 points by frabcus ↗ HN
https://x.com/ still returns a 301 redirect to https://twitter.com/

It's been some time now, what technical or SEO or other reason could there be for X not moving the website domain?

I guess there are countless applications that would break even with a formal redirect from twitter.com to x.com. There are a lot of third party apps and other connectors that probably would need to be updated. I guess they will still keep the domain for a long time.

The name change does seem to be quite a questionable policy decision though, not only because of the technical difficulties. It is like Coca Cola renaming itself to Flopsi.

Agreed.

Every major news outlet in my country refers to it as “X formerly known as twitter” frankly because the vast majority of people would have no idea what X is without that caveat.

It is exactly like renaming coke to flopsi!

they should stop the joke of "formally known as" (which was funny for about half an hour) and just say twitter
X doesn’t even make me think of a brand, Flopsi does.

“X hires 100 engineers” makes me think X is a typo or a variable of some sort.
