Just for the sake of argument, I think there's an entirely different way of looking at this: People who are good at innovation, have an advantage in innovation. Those with the entrepreneurial bug and talent for creating great things, get on with it as soon as they can i.e shortly after high school - they don't wait till they're in their 40s and that's why you see the data that's out there. On a different note: outside the USA I don't think you find quite the same number of successful young people, so it's not really universal.
