Is there a short list of the differences between this tool and audacity. Like when would I want to use this tool over importing the audio into audacity.

Ffmpeg's multimedia filters can go a long way for visual feedback on live audio. I've been usingffmpeg CLI commands that record audio/video while also displaying a preview with audio overlay for monitoring.
