I am more impressed by the hardware and seamless motion than the autonomous sorting. They seem to be iterating both the hardware and the software at an insane pace. The post mentions that it's trained end-to-end - saves a lot of time from tuning old-school controllers.

Tesla Bot team also made some impressive hires - I know a few PhD students who were working on end-to-end learning based approaches for robotics that joined the Tesla Bot team - these are the folks that were pushing the boundaries of what's possible with pure robot learning in real robots.

I remember reading this article by Verge (https://www.theverge.com/2021/8/20/22633958/tesla-bot-elon-m...) when Tesla Bot was announced and thinking "I wouldn't be betting against the Tesla team if they really are going all in on this".
