Ask HN: Fake Reviews on G2?

I recently noticed that my company [1] has 23 reviews on G2, all of which seem to be fake. I know they're fake because we sell an enterprise product with a high amount of consulting and I happen to know all our customers personally, and none of the reviewers are people I would recognize. Most of the stuff that's written in the reviews is nonsensical as well and doesn't correspond to the type of product or services we offer.

I'm wondering what's the game here? We never paid anyone for creating reviews of our software on G2 or elsewhere, and our core product is actually named differently. Are those people just writing random 4-5 star reviews to gain credibility so that they can create paid fake reviews for some other services? In any case, take G2 and other sites with a grain of salt, it seems fraudulent reviews are rampant.
