Spent the morning wrestling with this bug. It affects iOS17 and 17.0.1 on my iPhone 12 (not sure about other models). It appears to be fixed on iOS17.0.1 on my iPad. I've seen reports that it occurs on iOS16.7 as well.

Edit: Temporary workaround is to Add to Home Screen you webpage. The full screen web app wrapper does not lose context like Safari does.
