The relative prosperity gap between the two will certainly close. Europe has an advantage of already having a society with stable governments and populations used to living in a prosperous society for long. But obviously the current gap is just historical. Given enough time it will certainly close, and unlike the US, the EU is less focused on growth and more focused on policies for equality and other QoL metrics, which might hurt the EU in longer term.
