Oh dear.

It would be laughably easy for the Russian command to disprove (and thoroughly discredit) the Ukrainian reporting if these reports are false.

But the Russians can't.

This guy is Russian. Furthermore he has chosen to align himself with the aggressor.
There’s a problem with assassinating war leaders. Replacements are more likely to have fresh ideas and might be more effective. Even if they are not as good they will certainly be new. One of the biggest things that loses wars is that high level leadership gets stuck with senior people who aren’t flexible. Generals keep fighting the previous war and losing. If you take out the generals they get replaced with newer, fresher people.

You’re actually doing your enemy a service.

A better strategy might be to ignore the ineffectual senior leaders. Target the effective subordinates people who get shit done.

Experience matters a lot more than fresh ideas in the battlefield.
