First: Not a DF fan. Not at all. We should be able to do better. The blame for the fact that we can't belongs elsewhere (i.e., it's not his fault). And yet even beacons of journalism love to report on the symptom.
That being said...
The first question is: Did he break the law?
If not, then the next question is: Why do our laws allows such things?
Followed by: How and why does our (?) representation allow this to persist?
Finally: This is only one example, there are certainly others, who are they? What does the big picture look like? Does the NYT have enough "ink" to print that list?
----
The media *once again* playing the Trump The Villian card might make for fake news (i.e., they conveniently buried the lede, per the obvious questions above) but it's ultimately a distraction. We need to stop falsely focusing on symptoms and instead demand we find the root problems and sort those out. Else, there will just be DJT#2, DJT#3 and so on.
But perhaps the media doesn't want a cure? Perhaps sociopolitical dysfunction is good for profits? Maybe "The Fourth Estate" [1] is part of the problem?
[1] I use air quotes because I believe the majority of our current media paradigm doesn't actually meet the criteria to be considered TFE. And *that* my friends *is* a threat to democracy. Yeah, ironic.
