this was posted here and flagged https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37701476

I don't know why it's flagged tho, because it's true. I can confirm my desktop client is blocked (same screen as in the article), but funnily enough I can go to discord.com and login through the webinterface. Maybe they disabled the cloudflare CDN as an emergency measure in their webapp?

The comments in that thread are really something. I think it's better for it to stay flagged. Alternatively all the green comments should go.
yea blocked Discord users googling for help and it's the first result. it being flagged doesn't take it off Google though. It's the first hit for me when Googling "discord block"
Well.

That was an adventure.

I'm not going to lie, I laughed. A lot.

This was one of those moments where the broader internet floods into a niche corner of existence, and it's kind of fascinating to see just how sharply internet culture can clash.

I can get in via browser but not via the desktop client.
Firefox works for me, Chrome does not.
It really emphasises that the desktop client is a glorified webapp that the entire window from top to bottom is nothing but a Cloudflare error page:

It probably comes with a large feature set to extract more system information that a browser already tends to provide.
Or to have notifications work reliably.
Basically:

- Scan your system processes (and associated window titles)

- "native" screen capture

- Game overlay

- Global hotkeys

It's plenty possible to just use discord in the browser if you don't care of any of the above
