Poll: For or Against AI
We're hitting peak AI. There's a lot of noise, hype, ChatGPT wrappers and clones. There's infinite generative things and talk of replacing life with a metaverse/AI equivalent. But there's also significant value being demonstrated in the tools, architecture and new paradigm of interaction with technology. So curious to know, are you for or against it? Do you have an apocalyptic view about the whole thing? Or is it just a hyped phenomenon that will deliver as much value as the internet, mobile or the cloud?

[ 0.24 ms ] story [ 15.5 ms ] threadSounds like Second Life all over again, except with way more grifting and even more empty promises, as well as scams.
That said, ChatGPT makes for an excellent complement to a search engine/IDE and can help both iterating on ideas more quickly, as well as aid in learning - provided that you actually verify the claims. It has saved me hours getting code and language structures working, or realizing what's not possible, than just browsing the docs would take me.
Some people are promising a new form of life, whereas I'm happy to basically have IntelliSense 2, hype cycles and all...
Unfortunately, this might also mean that customer support will be increasingly LLM driven, making getting satisfactory answers in non standard situations even harder, in addition to fewer jobs being available. This will also apply to other sectors, too.
What we call a "computer" is simply a tool. It is a binary logic playback device. AI is also a tool --- it is a set of binary instructions the computer can play back over and over at very high speed --- one of an infinite number of such possibilities.
How can you be "For" or "Against" any such tool?
How do you feel about a hammer? I'm "For" one used to drive nails and build homes. But I'm "Against" one used to break windows and commit crimes.
Maybe the third option should read "Illogical"?
EDIT: I see a third option was added as I was making my post. Did AI do that? Color me "Indifferent".
