Tell HN: Bring back the email confirmation link
I receive plenty of emails to services that I have never actually joined. I was never allowed to confirm my email. I'm just suddenly a member and start receiving updates. The way out is usually to track down an increasingly elusive support email address to explicitly explain that whoever used my email made a mistake. Consider bringing back the confirmation link. Better yet, also include a link that nullifies the email address for that account. It may seem inconsequential to have your email as part of some random service's membership, but only until it's not. We're entering an era where AI make decisions that affect our lives, based on data driven heuristics. Where they got the data and how they're using it is often obscure and there's nobody to talk to when a mistake is made. And there will increasingly be less people to talk to.
