Ask HN: Database of writable CAN bus data for cars

Does anyone know of a source for what data is exposed over the CAN bus in any cars?

Specifically, I'd like to be able to write data over CAN to control non-critical features (radio volume, windows, climate control, etc.).

Is my only option to use a sniffer while pressing steering wheel volume buttons?
