Actually makes sense to me. Netflix is probably missing out on all those sweet direct merch profits (I'm assuming they get some from the IP they sell, but they might be able to take larger cuts this way).

This is probably a market test to see how worthwhile selling this merch will be. Although I'm surprised they didn't try a Netflix online shop first. Maybe its also an experiences market grab/test.

The item they are least likely to sell are DVDs and Blurays of their shows.
