Ask HN: How hard is it to write a Linux printer driver?

9 points by JaggerJo ↗ HN
I've build a Photo Booth last year that includes a photo printer (Citizen CZ-01 [1]).

When picking the printer my requirements were:

- cost per print

- number of prints per interaction (loading printing medium, ..)

- cost of the printer

Overall I'm pretty happy with the printer, the only issue is that it does not have a linux driver, only macOS and windows.

How hard is it for an expert to write a basic printer driver for linux (measured in days/hours)?

(I'm not intending to write it myself, but hire someone if it's financially feasible)
