EU abandons promise to ban toxic chemicals in consumer products (theguardian.com)

Some MP must've received a handsome 'donation' from a lobbyist.

Consumers would avoid products that contain chemical they consider to be toxic, and am I correct in assuming that national governments can impose regulations more stringent than the EU?
