Most people aren’t against “technology” per se. But they do have a keen sense of how changes (including technology) affect the balance of power among humans. The very fact that Andreesen isn’t willing to acknowledge this aspect (speaking of “playing God with everyone else’s lives, with total insulation from the consequences” — his criticism of the ivory tower) captures why people would naturally distrust his arguments. As the saying goes: “Don’t piss on my leg and tell me it’s raining”.

How would people distinguish such an immense lack of self awareness (most charitable interpretation) from grift, or worse, demagoguery?
