Ask HN: Career Advice Needed

I'm in 1st Sem Studying Maths & Computing.

Presently I am confused about which career to choose. I was exploring Software Developer, Data Science, Cybersecurity, DevOps, Cryptography.

I have less understanding of what are these fields and which I should choose.

AI is continuously progressing & I am afraid of its capabilities in next 5 years when I will be graduating, it can be capable of things which it is not in present. I am very confused and clueless.

All of my friends have started doing DSA, should I too start doing it.

I have no idea about cybersecurity, I have read it's difficult for freshers to get into.

I have got time to pivot now to what to do in my career.

Please give me your advice. Thank you.

What's DSA?

Take this with a grain of salt, but you might consider trying to find a particular problem or type of problem that you are interested in solving. That could help you pick the area of study, by working backwards.

Just go into software dev. Don’t go into “Devops”, it’s just some shitty buzzword for having a bunch of oncall. “Data science” is really oversaturated atm. Cybersec in industry isn’t as glamorous as what you might think
