US sends weapons to Israel to destroy and kill radical Islamists and invaded Muslim countries on false grounds. China deals with its own domestic radical Islamists problem through re-education camps after countless domestic terrorist acts.
Some random person on HN once said that China solved his domestic terrorism problem through re-education camps and went from hundreds of innocent people getting killed per year[0] to near zero without mass killing Muslims. If Obama had done the same, he would have been given a nobel price. Instead, it's labeled as a genocide by the west. I thought it was an eye opening perspective.
> re-education camps after countless domestic terrorist acts
Domestic terrorist acts as defined by the CCP and reported by its state organs (while disallowing any form of meaningful independent verification) to people inside a state-mandated Great Firewall (state-controlled censored and propagandized echo chamber)?
”Reeducation camps” sound and look an awful lot like the Japanese-American and German-American internment camps in the USA, if not an awful lot like concentration camps and extermination camps run by the Germans and Japanese, during WWII, when seen from the outside (which, yes, is inside an alternative state-influenced echo chanber).
If you’re inside China there’s a more than decent chance that there are FAR fewer “radical Islamists” in reality than your (again, state-influenced) information streams have you believing exist inside unreality, never mind far more innocent people being killed by your government than you’d like to know.
Read https://erinkissane.com/ (if you even can without a state-actor standing as a MITM) and replace Myanmar with China and you might start to see what I’m getting at.
A lot of countries on this planet, and especially its current super powers, need a minority to demonize… you seem to be under the impression (apparently from inside the Great Firewall) that China is doing xenophobia and racism _better_?
EDIT: by the way, my skip-the-Nobel-please first pass idea would be to talk to them and find out why their grievances have driven them to actions that the state wants / needs to [opp|sup]ress.
Last I checked, HN was blocked by the Great Firewall. 70% chance they're an American (jumping to criticism of US political parties is a big clue) or other Westerner who doesn't speak Chinese.
No, I didn’t call it a genocide, I said that what you call re-education camps look to me like internment camps, which can also look like concentration camps (since they’re fundamentally the same thing) and which, absent fully independent verification, might actually be extermination camps. History is the only thing that will show if those camps represent a genocide or not, but it does look suspiciously like what one would do in a genocide.
Avoiding actual genocide, by the way, is why I don’t believe China’s numbers any more than I believed Bush’s or would have believed Roosevelt’s or Hitler’s or Hirohito’s.
>However, we know that between 280,771-315,190 have died from direct war related violence caused by the U.S., its allies, the Iraqi military and police, and opposition forces from the time of the invasion through March 2023. The violent deaths of Iraqi civilians have occurred through aerial bombing, shelling, gunshots, suicide attacks, and fires started by bombing. Many civilians have also been injured.
>About 243,000 people have been killed in the Afghanistan/Pakistan warzone since 2001. More than 70,000 of those killed have been civilians.
>Millions of people living in the war zones have also been displaced by war. The U.S. post-9/11 wars have forcibly displaced at least 38 million people in and from Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, the Philippines, Libya and Syria. This number exceeds the total displaced by every war since 1900, except World War II.
So, if I’ve got this straight, in a few thousand years the known universe will be ruled by the son of a first generation Taiwanese immigrant who has evolved into / mystically merged with a chip foundry?
At least, on the good side, we know the AI thing won’t pan out, after the Butlerian Jihad.

Edit: I should be clear that I do not condone any violence or war. I also don't have an opinion on the ongoing conflict in the middle east.

There's a Nobel waiting for you.

Re-education camps were set up for people whose actions did not constitute a crime (不构成犯罪) or who completed a prison sentence but which the state nonetheless did not want to release: http://www.xinhuanet.com/politics/2019-03/18/c_1124247196.ht...

My point isn't to say USA bad or China bad. My point is that let's not be hypocrites.
