It's not necessarily a bad thing if China shows the world how willing it is to tighten the noose on the West for being too gullible. This is a pretty good analogue to what happened between Germany and Russia, for a long time the German government was hopelessly naive about how giving Russia the noose to strangle it with was a smart move because nobody would every dare to tighten it. And then it happened. Rude awakening but China can do the West a lot more harm so early warning are appreciated. Even if they are in retaliation to similar moves from the other side.
