Humanity did not save itself from climate catastrophe when it had a chance.
Yep, the science is clear and the severe weather events are right in front of you on multiple continents. Some level of climate change is already baked in. Yet the political debates are not reflecting the current situation. I hope we make the changes in time to avoid the worst models but I doubt that we will.

Read “the ministry for the future” by Kim Stanley Robinson. I believe that there are many possible actions that will improve the situation but there are lots of people downplaying it or just flat out ignoring it.

Agreed, but will the be seen as ‘shocking’? It seems this human trajectory is expected
That people were trying to create slaves (in this case, AGI for business use).

Acceptance of and capitulation to reactionaries.
Good one. It does seem inevitable we’ll always mean revert to scientific truth
That we were all under the impression that we lived in a democracy.
Humanity's arrogance, believing that another being is somehow inferior (and ourselves, by implication, superior) and should not be part of this reality.
Probably the gender theory thing. In 100 years I think people will laugh to the idea that we once debated whether men could be pregnant or not.
How about (in order of most shocking):

- More people died in car crashes than wars

- That the healthcare system was built to cure already ill people, rather than prevent people from getting ill.

- That genetic diseases went untreated
