Ask HN: How to Find Better Style?

I'm a 33 male software engineer. How can I find a better clothing style? The style should not be too trendy, but it also shouldn't look too boring or weird, it should rather be solid. I would like to hear about plain, old blogs instead of Instagram and the like. I'm looking for both very casual style clothing and something that I can wear in a business setting, but no suits.

I'd just pick a upper-mid brand like JCrew or Bonobos and redo your wardrobe with that. Focus on staples and neutral colors. On most days, I personally wear black t-shirts with different-colored JCrew shorts. A clean high-quality t-shirt tucked into shorts with a belt (and loafers) passes as business casual in my area. Shoes are very important. If you wear nice "church" shoes, it makes the rest of the outfit look intentional no matter what you're wearing haha.
