Badges in UISegmentedControl

UISegmentedControl does not support badges. Unlike UITabBar (UITabBarItem) there is no method to add a red badge with a number indicating activity. And UISegmentedControl does not accept UIViews for it's segment items, just images or titles.

So how did we add badges to our segmented controls in Socialcam? We subclassed UISegmentedControl, and added a setBadge:forSegmentAtIndex: method. This method pulls the text or image out of the segment, adds it to a temporary view, adds a badge to that view, renders it to an image and inserts the image back into the segment. Bam!
