Ask HN: Which remote desktop software works well for both Windows and Mac?

1 points by Dreamliander ↗ HN
I use a Windows computer for work and also have a MacBook. Is there any good remote desktop software I can use to connect and use both my work and personal computers at any time? I've tried TeamViewer and AnyDesk, but they seem a little expensive. Are there any alternative suggestions?

From best performant to least:

Chrome Remote Desktop

Nomachine

HopToDesk

Rustdesk (open-source anydesk/teamviewer alternative)

Apache Guacamole

VNC

There are great open source ones.

Rustdesk.

Aspia.org

I use both under a sdwan so performance is native like and works 24x7.

If you have to use from normal internet, rustdesk would fit the bill.

Ignore rest. They are paid mostly

I’ve heard Jump Desktop is it’s own league with their protocol. AFAIK you buy the app on Mac side and Windows client/server is no cost
You can enable Remote Desktop on your Windows computer and then connect to it using the Microsoft Remote Desktop app which (I think) is available in the App Store.
I was going to say something like this, I don't use a Mac but in Windows I use the traditional built-in Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), then with Linux use whatever generic RDP app is available with the distro.
