India on the Heels of USA in Defense Manufacturing – Could It Outpace by 2030?

6 points by abhilashcho ↗ HN
Right now, the world is seeing two big wars: one is happening between Russia and Ukraine, and the other is between Israel and militant groups of Hamas and Hezbollah.

In the middle of all this, startups and companies are innovating and building next generation weapons and defense systems.

Of all the Defense and Space manufacturing companies across the world, 117 of them grew in headcount over the last 1 year.

About 60% of the growing companies in Defense and Space industry are based in USA. Followed by India at 10%.

Very interesting data. It makes sense for India to have some of these companies given its location and geopolitics on that side of the world. Interesting that French companies are growing pretty fast too.
Indian gov has taken a lot of steps in recent years to leap frog its manufacturing industries
Yes, I agree, Indian Government is also giving all around full support to these innovative start ups.
Lots of new start ups are coming up in the area of defense and space. Some of them are making very good contribution to the countries GDP. There is very good scope for these companies in India.
Does the AI wave and tech layoffs in the US tilt wave more in India’s favor long term?
The AI wave is at very nacent stage, it has to go for very long way. It may be useful initially to the areas where the activities are repeatative in nature. In this area AI tutoring is very simple, hence its implementation is quite rewarding.
The US military budget is around $700 billion/year. The Indian military budget is around $70 billion/year. I'm sure you could cherry pick some statistic like rate of growth but 700 is bigger than 70.
