Ask HN: HashiCorp Stack – Yes or No?

8 points by kosolam ↗ HN
Consul, Nomad and Vault promise to solve all the concerns that a service mesh cluster may have. It’s exactly what we need: generic, open source, good adoption, supports vm workloads, not kube, etc.. Yet. The documentation is horrible. Awful mess that confuses more than helps. I know that this stack work, and supposedly organizations use it to deploy infra at scale. Yet, with the state of things it would take us months to get up and running with a good setup - just because there is no way to have a guide or a reference on how to properly do stuff. This is my last attempt to reach out and understand if it’s just me? And is there any solution?

It’s not just you. The fact that they keep adding new modules with new names is a big part of the problem, it shows they don’t have a cohesive plan.
Yes. This and a lot more is like a long line of red flags.

The problem is that I can’t find something else that I could use for this task, without going into development of in house tools and such.

For a more understandable open source Vault alternative, I’d recommend you look into Infisical.

Thanks, I’ll check it out.

I think it's not open source anymore. Just source available.
