Not so, according to Gannett.
Lark-Marie Antón, a spokeswoman for the company, said in a statement on Friday that the articles in question had been “created by third-party freelancers hired by a marketing agency partner, not A.I.”
Sounds like Gannett outsourced to a marketing agency, which hired freelancers to create the content (perhaps with the assistance of AI). Or perhaps the marketing agency didn't hire freelancers at all, and just created the content itself (again, with the help of AI)!
