Tell HN: Twitter/X Circles are no more
For context: Twitter Circles were a feature where you could make private posts only visible to those followers you add into your circles (Similar to Instagram's close friends). Personally I used this feature a lot, to share more personal matters with followers I know and trust, or just make opinions about politics without causing a flame war.
I know many people in HN are not fond of Twitter, or use it in a more professional manner, so they might not care. But it does seem odd to me for a company to be so adamant in removing a feature that doesn't seem to have an apparent cost overall in the system, and was used by many people. Do you think there's a hidden motive for this?
I personally do not pay for Twitter Blue, but if there is ONE feature I would pay for, it would be having my Twitter Circles back, so it does seem weird from a business perspective as well. Maybe they want people creating private accounts so they seem like they have more active accounts?
And for anyone wondering yes, you can still have a private account, but it's not the same since you can't just add people there, you have to DM people so that they follow you in the new account, plus, answers are not private like in circles.
