I remember one time I didn't use the Priority option on Uber Eats and got a cold late meal. So then I started always using it. Finally I realized how stupid it all was, like blue checkmarks and stopped using Uber Eats or delivery apps in general.
Now I'll order pizza directly from a local shop or pick it up myself, it's faster and more convenient. The economics should make delivery more efficient and effective but not if the platform takes from those efficiencies and delivers inefficiently.
The frustrating thing is that, at least around me, a lot of local places got rid of their delivery staff/infrastructure over the past few years. Not just restaurants that wouldn’t have had delivery prior to DoorDash et al. pizza and Chinese takeouts fired all their delivery drivers and took online ordering off their websites to be replaced with a link to Grubhub or whatever. So now if you want to order delivery around here you basically have to use these apps or go to one the larger chains that has terrible food but eschews them like dominoes.
I just cook at home now. Occasionally I’ll pick up food. I refuse to support these garbage companies and when I have my (very expensive) food shows up cold almost always anyway.
