It sounds like he hasn't played in a tournament in 5 months, not much more. By no means is there any reason to believe he's "disappeared" in any kind of malicious way
5 months is a long time, and he's "disappeared" in the sense that there has been no communication from him. It's not just a matter of not playing chess.
