Poll: Do you know what TCP/IP is?

6 points by fragmede ↗ HN
This came up on the MicroTCP thread*. Is it reasonable to assume readers here know what it is? Personally I say yes, but who cares what I say, I want to know what everyone else here says.

TCP/IP. Do you know what it is/does/etc?

I answered "Yes but I'd have to look some details up." I don't know as much as I'd like. I'm currently taking notes going through the textbook "Computer Networking: A Top-Down Approach Featuring the Internet". It's a good resource, and it really means top-down. First it gives in outline of the difference between packet switching vs circuit switching, then describes a rough outline of each layer, then describes each layer in detail (again, from a top-down perspective).
