Wasn't mainstream media's consensus it was sabotage by Russia themselves?

No other narrative was allowed at the time in the UK.

No it wasn't. Russia was always possibility and some governments pointed fingers towards Russia. Media reported these suspicions accurately. Suspicions against Poland and Ukraine were also reported.

Sy Hersh claiming that the United States coordinated the attacks was just crazy shit.

Which medias? Here in canada the narrative I saw was "we suspect maybe, this one, maybe that one, but we don't know". I've followed the story for a while and there was no consensus, and more importantly no real evidence of anything.
It was the same in the US. There wasn't any mainstream consensus, and the people claiming they were sure it was X or Y were all fringe.
Indeed!

Despite the logic that would make this a ridiculous action by the Russians to cut their nose to spite their face, people offered all kinds of contrived reasons the Russians would shoot themselves in the foot.

If they wanted to hurt Europe al the had to do was turn the valve. The stupidest option would be to blow it up.

It's like Covid where pretty much everyone who was for lockdowns and sicking police those who flouted orders now say they were never for lockdowns...

A lot of talk without any evidence trying to persuade that this fantasy has any merit. Considering that only Russian propaganda media has picket it up so far is also telling.
This is the Washington Post saying they spoke to sources confirming these details. I do not think they are Russian propaganda media.
