No one wants to be sold to, but everyone enjoys buying things they want. The key is just letting people know what you have of value so they can benefit from it. Buying non-essential things is an emotional act, but we use logic to rationalize our purchases.
I love marketing. Without it, I wouldn't have been able to have successful businesses and likely wouldn't be able to have a dev job.

What I hate is scummy marketing, and most marketing I see (especially on the internet) is scummy marketing.

The truth is, we wouldn't have jobs if our companies didn't market so I totally get authentic marketing and not just straight hating on ads anymore.
