Ask HN: Coder morale in the face of layoffs, crappy management, etc.

For the few hackers on HN who have corporate jobs: how do you maintain morale at companies after layoffs? Yahoo's recent layoffs are a case in point but there are so many other examples. Software is such a creative endeavor .. I'm amazed that managers think of programmers as interchangeable cogs. Thanks.
