Isn't the Camry's popularity largely related to it's dominance as a taxi? I see way more corollas out there than Camry's in the hands of consumers. That being said, I have a 2007 Camry that I love. It friggen rips!
Toyotas have a well earned reputation for running forever if you take care of them. That's why there's a premium for them, even though they often run a generation or two behind on features.
The catalytic converter thieves must be extremely excited for this. Those hybrid cats are really likely to get cut off in most west coast cities
