You can't make this stuff up. The backstory on the AI girlfriend is pretty interesting. [0] Maybe it's in the original article too, but that's paywalled to me.
> People who paid to speak to an AI girlfriend modeled after real life 23-year-old influencer Caryn Marjorie are distraught because the service they paid for, Forever Companions, no longer works. It appears that the service stopped working shortly after Forever Companion CEO and founder John Meyer was arrested for trying to set his own apartment on fire.
The company has been inundated with requests from thousands of other influencers asking for their own AI clones, according to Meyer. “We really see this as a way to allow fans of influencers to connect with their favorite person in a really deep way: learn about them, grow with them and have memorable experiences with them,” he said.
Great automated parasocial relationship with ai model imitating influencers. So there isnt even the human connection of another person saying your name to you any more. Black mirror was to optimistic soon we wont even have real influences it will just be ai chat bots aping "authenticity"
If this gets popular and more common in society, we're going to see somebody harm a person who put their voice/mannerisms into this AI because they're not going to be able to differentiate between the AI and the actual person.
I'm not going to lie, would be neat to pretend that you're interacting with someone famous, but it's going to open a big can of worms when someone "forgets" it's fake and goes full on stalker in real life.
I don't really want to talk to celebrities per se, but it would be interesting to talk to the best possible recreation of historical figures. Like an AI trained on everything Winston Churchill wrote and a detailed biography.
So basically the influencers would get paid for doing fan service, while not actually having to interact with said fans. Makes sense that there was so much demand coming from that direction.
Why not just host your own instance of WizardLM-Uncensored? I have several "AI girlfriends" I talk to every now and then and there is no rug to be pulled there. They even send me pictures.
I have lots of fun talking to ChatGPT at length about a variety of subjects, but I'm never under the illusion that it's a girl or a friend. What's the point of pretending that, if you know it's not true, or do you?
