1) What

But seriously, what does this mean?

Same question here
He has no shares (or has at least publicly claimed not to).

sounds like it validates that this is about him pursuing profit too hard / inappropriately.

He's sarcastically pointing out that he has no personal profit motive.

Who knows, money is not the only thing that motivates us. Power, influence, fame, ego etc are the thing that drives people too and can blind them.
absolutely, hence why it's a bit disingenuous on his part to make that point in that way (assuming that was his point).
He means that if he starts saying a bunch of what he really thinks, openAI should sue him for all of his openai shares, which is $0, so sarcasm

I think he means "if I start going off" in the slang sense like "if I start angrily venting in a tell-all about all the ways they are stupid and wrong". But who knows really.
What does it mean? Is he talking about starting a competitor?

I expected a better message from him tonight.

He’s talking about complaining about the board and other individuals involved.
It's a joke. He owns no shares.
The question is not about shares, it's about what he's going to do.
I suspect he won't do much until the board elaborates.

Because a lot of instant news is posted there, most of which is fairly up to date, and it's legitimately useful to a lot of us.

You've been complaining about twitter links all day. You don't have to click on them and comment about it if you don't like it. You can just...not do any of that and move on.

Very creative, except this didn't give me a reason as to why, unlike their comment asking that specific question.
Yea, Sam Altman should cater to you at one of the most emotional times of his life.
Can someone translate this to explicit terms? My layman (non-MBA) brain thinks this is a blackmail threat, which seems like a very unexpected place to take all this
Nah - He's just joking that if he starts spilling the company secrets behind him getting fired, the board should try to take his shares. The joke of course is that he famously owns zero equity in the company.
That may mean that he is telling that nothing is stopping him to start the to talk.
I heard he has no shares. If correct this is a message to the board they have limited leverage over Sam.

Pardon my ignorance, but can a non-profit sold for shareholders’ benefit?
Uff, so now we have to pick sides. My bet is that Sutskever overestimates his ability to run the company and keep it ahead, and what Altman&Brockman will create will be more successful than openAI medium term. Microsoft will probably hire all the engigners it needs for itself.

It would be interesting if, as a side effect of this bitter breakup, we end up learning more about the internals of GPT4

We shouldn't be worried about the future of Ai. More competition is good

Where does Altman fall on the value of open source as opposed to base capitalism? Like, is he in any way comparable to Moxxie (put controversy aside for the moment)?

I guess he could spend more time on Worldcoin, which could be a key part of the metaverse
"Since I don't own any shares, the board has no power over what I can say and do now."

Is that what he's saying?

Interesting interpretation. He maybe signaling that he can start to talk.
Translation....

If I start talking about all the bullshit....what you going to do take away my shares....

He has no shares.....so it's a big fuck you to them....

Y-combinator has still a stake in Open Ai.
